What is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth is an annual holiday the commemorates the end of slavery that has been celebrated by African-Americans since the 1800s.? On June 19, 1865, two months after Confederate General Robert E Lee surrendered in Virginia, Union general, Gordon Granger informed enslaved African-Americans of their freedom because the Civil War had ended.
Juneteenth is a celebration and brings friends and families together. Some who were descendants of those who were enslaved go back to Galveston Texas. Some celebrate Juneteenth with parades, festivals, backyard barbecue, and picnic. Juneteenth is to commemorate the hardships that we’re endured by those who have been enslaved. Juneteenth has been approved by Congress as a federal holiday in 2021.
