Research has shown that Prazosin is helpful in patients who suffer from PTSD symptoms.
PTSD symptoms may include depersonalization, impairment in thoughts and cognition, dissociation, and may include amnesia. Some people who experienced trauma may have suicidal ideations and up to 20% of patients with PTSD attempt suicide.
There is dysregulation of emotional states is very common among those with PTSD. For those who have childhood abuse, or combat trauma – shifts of mood may occur within hours. This mood lability may be triggered by interpersonal relationships and conflicts or reminders of the trauma.
Those who have been diagnosed with PTSD are 4x more likely to have panic disorder with agoraphobia. Agoraphobia is such an intense fear of being in situations or places where escape may be difficult. These places are elevators, bridges, and public spaces. Those who have PTSD diagnosis become isolative and withdrawn from friends and family.
Substance abuse is comorbid with those who experienced traumatic events. Many have co-occurring illness such as fatigue, headaches, muscle aches, heart disease, autoimmune disorders, gastroesophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and respiratory illness.
Many of those who have PTSD have significant functional and psychosocial disabilities and utilize health care services more.
