What are Values-Based Goals?
Values-Based Goals are those that is MEANINGFUL to you. It helps you prioritize what is important in your life. Values-based goals keep our focus on our purpose in life. It gives us a sense of accomplishment. Your values are specific to you because these are the beliefs that let you succeed in life.
Examples of values would are, accountability, belonging, curiosity, diversity, empathy, excellence, fitness, freedom, honor, independence, harmony, joy, patriotism, positivity, reliability, resourcefulness, service, spirituality, strength, success, teamwork, unity, and understanding.
In order to achieve these goals, you need to use the acronym S.M.A.R.T.
- S – Specific
- M – Measurable
- A – Achievable
- R- Realistic
- T – Timely
Over time your goals may change, but your values stay the same. Value-centered goals connect us and bridge us to a higher purpose in life. These values help us prioritize what is truly important in our existence. Values-based goals are vital for our existence because it drives us to the direction of fulfillment.
